Comes from being a kid, i had a legendary inability to feel pain, repeatedly running into doors, walls and standing in the way of most things
There once was a kid who thought he was 'hard' by dropping a school compass on his arm so i went over with a engineers compass, 'big point' stuck vertical in my arm just to show him up
Then it kinda just fits my character, big, ugly but practical
Many other reasons too but i really cant be bothered,
