| Have been wanting to have a go at making one of these as the only ones iv seen are the panzer plates sold in the US or the OEM one. Both costing around a silly £300!!! My TDI sump hangs almost lower than the front bumper so im defiantly looking to get some sort of guard Scouring the webnet iv managed to find these pictures: I can redraw this on CAD and change it all to cm/mm etc Anyone that has the tools and knowhow to make it? Would anyone else be interested in one? Just need to figure out how to mount it! | |

| Would it not attach to the subframe ? And have you looked at getting a smaller sump ? Once I get my 1.6 I'm gonna invest in a smaller sump that sits alot higher than a normal one ! | |

| not had a massive look into shallow sumps, i know you can get them for the 1,8t tho.
subframe would be a good bet!
im sure you can drive over a house before the 1.6 sump has any problems??

| Depends how low u go looking at matram polo u can't get much lower, trouble with a sump gaurd is the size and weight make it hard, saying that, anythings possible, you could look at a dry sump kit, moving the sump completly to an aux oil pump setup, like a rally car, or...... I've seen a new trend where ppl are armour plating there standard sumps, so that if they do hit the floor I doesn't damage the sump making it leak | |

| Those ideas are good, but the dry sump would be a lot of work! and id still worry if i plated the sump, as if i was to hit the floor with it, it could still crack up the side. A guy on UK-mkivs welded some steel plate to his, hit the floor and cracked up the side.
im not bothered about the size and weight of the guard tbh so for me the best option would be a plate like that photo.
Do you have the tools and know how to bend and cut sheet metal like that. not sure what metal would be best, steel obviously the strongest but would be VERY heavy.
would aluminium be up to the task?

| The easyer option (which is somthing ill be doing to the wifes lupo) is to pick up a sump gaurd from another car, like a mini or impreza, then convert that to suit your car, saves a fortune purchasing materials and tool making, realy the only thing u need once uve picked up a cheep sump gaurd is some metal support struts (which I should have in my garage) If we did it like that there's no reason it can't be done | |

| Yeah, just like that, just thinking, unless u make it fully secure it'll act more as a scrap gaurd than a full blown smash gaurd, I'd be more tempted to get a dry sump kit and have the sump massivly reduced in size to get you more clearence | |
