Anyone any good at alloy welding/know anyone?

Just got hold of a set of 17" RS8 replicas but the guy noticed 2 tiny cracks when he cleaned them for me, the tyre is still holding air and theyre about 15-20mm long and just wide enough to get a fingernail in so to me doesnt sound too bad, he's knocked me a good wedge off the already cheap wheels due to the problem so question is now, anyone any good at ally welding or know anyone that is? Hopefully not gonna cost a bomb and obviously i need it doin properly but should be a relatively small job?

I'm going to say that you are going to need to talk to a specialist with this due to the composition of the metals in the alloys, your probbibly gunna need specialist welding gear to do this, but im not a welder so cannot tell you for sure.
but and at the end of the day you don't want it shattering at speed.


Get it looked at by a specialist is my advice mate,

Can u find out how much mate? It's 2 cracks about 15-20mm long on the inside lip of the rim, theyre both a bit jagged so not a clean line, I've been quoted £35-£45 from AP tyres in rotherham and they guarantee it so if u can beat that I would be well happy lol, I take it the welder does wheels often and knows what he's doin yea?

You can weld them with a stick welder and aluminum rods, but needs a tig welder ideally, the price youve got seems fair, depends if they will do it properly, ie cleaning it down proberly,grinding the crack out then seaming it up, if its done right then it will be easy to balance up too

yea they mentioned that, they are alloy specialists so will know what theyre doin, but it would be nice if someone else who knows what theyre doin could do it cheaper lol, thanks matt, u got my number if u wanna txt me if u need to know anythin
